Democrats Passed Marijuana Legalization Plank!
In an historic vote, the California Democratic Party, the largest state political party in the country, for the first time ever voted to support the legalization of marijuana.
The plank submitted by the Brownie Mary Democratic Club originally called on the party to “Support the legalization of marijuana for industrial and recreational uses either through the initiative or legislative process in order to reduce crime, create new jobs and provide a new source of tax revenue.”
The plank was revised by the Platform Committee to read “Support the legalization, regulation and taxation of marijuana, in a manner similar to that of tobacco or alcohol.”
I had no objections to the changes and when I asked what I needed to do next, was told that I really didn’t need to do anything as it was approved by a solid majority of Platform Committee and it will proceed on its own just fine.

About Brownie Mary Club
The Brownie Mary Club is the first political party affiliated Cannabis Club in California, and maybe the nation. Club members work within their party to promote the Brownie Mary Club, help get their representatives elected to protect the rights of medical marijuana patients and bring marijuana prohibition to an end.
The problems medical marijuana patients are having obtaining and using medicinal marijuana is totally political. Whether it's bans, homes being raided, DUIs or children being taken away from their parents, all of these problems are a result of politicians failing to enact any regulations and have instead created an unbridled profusion of unregulated, unlicensed medical marijuana collectives.
Inspired by the gay community's formation of the Stonewall and Harvey Milk Democratic clubs, a cannabis club with the Riverside County Democratic Central Committee has been formed - the Brownie Mary Democratic Club of Riverside County, named after Mary Jane Rathbun who, when in her late 70s, got the moniker Brownie Mary after she began making marijuana infused brownies and distributing them to AIDS patients in San Francisco hospitals.
The Brownie Mary Club is such an appropriate name. It bespeaks the seriousness of the health and medical benefits of cannabis and yet is sounds light-hearted and fun - which is what this serous medicine happen to be. Even better, the club is named after a woman and the marijuana movement is so male dominated, we wanted to showcase the important role women have played.
